About Angela Betteridge

I have worked with couples, children and families for many years
 

I am a qualified Systemic Psychotherapist and Supervisor,  a member of the Association of Family Therapy and registered with UKCP. I have always worked with children, couples and families and continue to be inspired and learn from the families who come to therapy.

I am genuinely interested in the people I see and aim to bring warmth and empathy along with experience and skill to help them identify and make the changes they desire.

Background

After many years in the public sector working in a busy NHS team, most recently as Lead Systemic Psychotherapist and Supervisor in CAMHS, I now work in independent practice in Lewes, East Sussex, in comfortable rooms within a practice setting.

Training

My training has been at Tavistock and Portman Trust, Institute of Family Therapy and the Institute of Psychiatry and Relate. My work in CAMHS was with children/young people and their families.

Positive Outcomes

In my experience outcomes for families seeing a therapist are positive with improved relationships and communication. Parents and children can think about how problems evolve and dissolve, without apportioning blame, but thinking about preferred futures.

I work with a range of issues with couples and families and aim to support my clients by offering them a safe and confidential space to explore difficulties. It is helpful at times to use a parental consultation model instead of including children, this works better when they the children are young.

Professional Development

I keep my continuing professional development up to date and attend workshops, training session and read professional literature and research.

I am a member of the Sussex Association of Family therapy and am part of a team who plan and execute workshops and training.

I am a member of the Association for Family Therapy and Systemic Practice in the UK (AFT). I abide by the UKCP Ethical Principles and Code of Professional Conduct and the AFT Code of Ethics and Practice.
